How to change a Team Member's Role

Access Requirements

To change the role of the team members, your account must have the Manage Users permission.

By default, Admins and Owners can change roles of other users.

Steps to change a Member's Role:

Open Settings.

Select Team.

Locate the required user.

Select the user's role or access settings.

Choose the new role.

Save the changes.

Fibr applies additional controls to privileged roles to reduce the risk of unauthorized privilege escalation.

Assign the Owner role	Owner only
Assign the Admin role	Owner or Admin
Assign User or Developer roles	Users with the required user-management permissions
Create or modify custom roles	Users with role-management permissions
Modify a built-in system role	Not permitted
Delete a built-in system role	Not permitted

These controls apply even when users have broader workspace-management permissions.

Issue	Possible Cause	Resolution
Unable to change a team member's role	Your account may not have the required user-management or role-management permission.	Confirm that your assigned role allows you to manage users and roles. Contact a workspace Owner or Admin if additional access is required.
Unable to assign the Owner role	Only an existing Owner can assign the Owner role to another user.	Ask the current workspace Owner to perform the role assignment.
Unable to assign the Admin role	Only an Owner or Admin can assign the Admin role.	Confirm that you are signed in as an Owner or Admin.
User does not have expected access after a role change	The newly assigned role may not contain the required permissions, or the user may have another role affecting their effective access.	Review all roles assigned to the user and verify that the required permission scopes are included.
User retains access after a role is removed	The user may have another assigned role that grants the same permission.	Review all roles assigned to the user. Fibr combines permissions across multiple roles.
Unable to remove or modify a system role	System roles are protected and their permissions cannot be edited.	Assign a different system role or create a custom role with the required permissions.
